I acknowledge the small business owners across the Bega Electorate for their resilience, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit. Despite ongoing economic pressures, workforce shortages, and rising operating costs, they continue to strengthen our regional economy and sustain the communities we call home. In the Bega electorate, small businesses are family-run enterprises — mums and dads balancing the demands of raising children, supporting ageing parents and contributing to community life. They make up 97.9 per cent of all businesses locally and form the backbone of the Bega economy. They create local jobs, volunteer in organisations like school P&Cs and Chambers of Commerce, drive tourism, and shape the distinct character of our towns and villages. The 2019–2020 bushfires, which caused an estimated $368 million in economic damage, tested that resilience. Many business owners lost their critical trading period while also evacuating their homes and supporting their families. Recovery has been strong. In every year since, Gross Regional Product growth in the Bega Electorate has exceeded the NSW average Owning a small business is never easy. It requires courage, long hours and constant adaptation. Thank you for your commitment, your risk-taking, and your belief in our community's future. I commend you.
