After 43 years of steadfast dedication, Peter Chance is stepping back from his central role at the Candelo Market.

Since stepping in following the sudden passing of market visionary Dr. Jake Morgan in 1983, Peter has been a cornerstone of the market’s growth, attending virtually every market day to ensure operations ran smoothly and welcoming locals and visitors alike.

Peter’s impact on Candelo extends far beyond the market stalls. Under his guidance alongside his wife Yvonne and fellow dedicated volunteers, market proceeds were channelled directly back into the community.

Most notably, Peter was instrumental in bringing the Candelo and Kameruka Swimming Pool to life in 1997—personally operating the bulldozer, tiling, managing plumbing, and coordinating with engineers.

Proceeds from the market have also funded local park benches, playground equipment, and community gatherings like the Candelo Village Festival.

Known for his calm presence and readiness to lend a hand, Peter has left an indelible mark on the town's spirit and infrastructure.

As he transitions to focus on his family, the Candelo community extends its deepest gratitude for his decades of tireless volunteer work and extraordinary legacy.
