Bruce's service to the NSW Rural Fire Service reflects more than four decades of dedication, leadership and commitment to protecting his community. He first joined in 1977 with the Narooma Brigade, beginning an extraordinary 43-year journey of volunteer service. In 1994 he moved to Central Tilba, where he has since played a key role in strengthening the brigade and improving bushfire preparedness across the district. Bruce has served as Captain of the Central Tilba Brigade since 2006, providing nearly two decades of steady respected leadership. During that time, he has guided members through many fire seasons and operational challenges, earning the trust of volunteers and the wider firefighting community. Throughout his service Bruce has also undertaken numerous other roles including Deputy Captain, Brigade Training Officer, Equipment Officer, Permit Officer and Brigade Secretary. In each position he has shown reliability, practical knowledge and a strong commitment to mentoring new volunteers. Bruce currently serves as a Group Officer within the Far South Coast Team, supporting brigades across the region. His service has been recognised through Life Membership of the Tilba Brigade and the National Medal with clasps. His contribution stands as a lasting example of dedication to community and service.
