May is a long-standing Cobargo community member who is recognised for her sustained voluntary service and fundraising efforts. May was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in 2021 Australia Day Honours for her service to the Cobargo community. She has provided long service with the Cobargo RFS, was involved in local sporting clubs as well as support for cancer research through Cancer Research Advocate Bikers (CRABS). May fundraises from her roadside stall selling cream and fruit pies and flowers. She has also raised money for BlazeAid, CareFlight, Cobargo Folk Festival, Cobargo Cemetery, and communities affected by flooding in Queensland and Victoria. May still lives at home in Cobargo where she raised her four children. May Blacka celebrates her 95th birthday in March.
